The deadlines for 2008 applications are:
Wednesday 7 May and Wednesday 5 November.

The notes here are intended as a brief summary. Applicants should read the skip to guidelines downloadguidelines and supporting notes (link here jumps to download link further down page) carefully before completing their application.

Applications for a Dundee Visual Artists Award must be submitted on the downloadable application form (link here opens a pdf file) and must be returned by the stated deadlines. Completed application forms must be signed by the applicant. Applications cannot be accepted by email.

Applications must be accompanied by supporting visual material. This should take the form of:
1. A maximum of six 35mm slides. Slides should represent work that has been produced within the last 12 months
2. Artists can also present their work in digital format. This can take the form of jpeg images, Powerpoint presentations or PDF files. These should be saved to cd and again should represent work that has been produced within the last 12 months
3. Artists working in time-based media may submit a video or DVD which should last, in total, no more than 7 to 10 minutes but which may include edited pieces from a number of works.
Original artwork will not be accepted as support to any application.

All applications are considered by the Dundee Visual Artists Awards Scheme panel. Membership of the panel is as follows:
1. Jenny Brownrigg, Artist and Curator
2. Chris Byrne, New Media Artist and Curator
3. Lindsay Brown, Artist
4. Scott Hudson, Artist
5. Moira Jeffrey, Visual Arts Officer, Scottish Arts Council

The quality of the artist's work and associated proposal is of the utmost importance. Successful applicants will have demonstrated a level of commitment to their practice and have achieved a body of work outwith formal education. The Panel will consider the following criteria before making an award:
1. the quality of the artist's work
2. the expected impact of the support on the applicant's creative development
3. the clarity of purpose behind the submission and reasons given for applying for an award
4. the quality of the information/ material/ visuals supplied in support of the application
5. the Panel will consider how the application will broadly benefit the artistic community of Dundee. If you are not resident in Dundee you should consider whether an application to the Council schemes in Aberdeen, Glasgow, or Edinburgh or the HI-Arts scheme for Highlands-based artists would be more appropriate. (See Other Schemes)

The number and size of grants made will be dependent upon applications received. The Awards panel reserves the right to offer a different amount to that requested.
